Private Transfer or Taxi: What the Journey Really Costs

A fair comparison of fixed-price transfers, airport taxis and ride-hailing apps — including the costs that only appear at the end.

Private Transfer or Taxi: What the Journey Really Costs

The fare is not the price

A taxi meter shows the fare. The price of your journey includes more than that: waiting at the kerb, luggage that does not fit, a driver who does not take cards, and the ten minutes you spend finding a car at 23:00 with two suitcases.

What a taxi really adds up to

  • Meter fare that rises with traffic, not distance
  • A surcharge for luggage in the boot on some trips
  • Waiting time if your flight is late and you have booked nothing
  • Cash-only drivers, and a detour to a cash machine
  • No child seat, ever

What ride-hailing changes, and what it doesn't

Apps solve the payment question and give you a price estimate in advance. They do not guarantee the car that arrives, the size of the boot, or that the driver will wait inside the terminal with your name on a sign. At a large airport, the pick-up point is often a walk away from arrivals.

Where a fixed price wins

A fixed transfer is priced on the route and the vehicle class, agreed before you travel. Traffic is our problem, not yours. The driver waits inside arrivals, tracks the flight, and the price you saw is the price you pay — in the car or online, in euros, with a voucher in your inbox.

When a taxi is the better choice

If you are travelling alone with hand luggage on a short hop across the city, hailing a car is quick and simple. Nobody needs a chauffeur for a seven-minute ride.

The rule of thumb

For airport journeys, late arrivals, families and anyone carrying more than one suitcase, a pre-booked transfer is usually both calmer and cheaper than it looks. For a spontaneous short trip inside one neighbourhood, it is not.
