Dubai International to Downtown: Arrivals Without the Queue
Terminal 1, 2 or 3, the metro versus the road, and how to land in Dubai feeling like you have already checked in.

Three terminals, three different arrivals
Dubai International is unusual in how much the terminal changes your experience. Terminal 3 handles most international long-haul arrivals and is the smoothest: immigration, bags, out. Terminal 1 carries a large share of the remaining traffic and can queue badly between 02:00 and 05:00, when dozens of long-haul flights land at once.
Knowing your terminal before you land is the difference between a fifteen-minute exit and a forty-minute one. Give us the flight number and we work it out.
The metro is excellent — with one caveat
If you are travelling alone with a cabin bag and staying near a Red Line station, the metro is fast and cheap. With two suitcases, a child and a hotel three streets from the station in August, it is a different calculation entirely.
Taxis at the airport are metered and plentiful, but the evening queue outside Terminal 3 can swallow half an hour. A pre-booked car meets you inside, after customs, with your name on a board.
How long the drive takes
Downtown Dubai (Burj Khalifa, Business Bay) is 20 to 30 minutes from the airport outside peak hours. Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence are 35 to 45. Between 07:00 and 09:30, and again from 17:30, add fifteen minutes on Sheikh Zayed Road.
What the fixed price includes
Fuel, salik tolls, airport parking and the waiting time included in your booking, whether you choose cash payment in the car or a card pre-payment. The amount is agreed when you reserve, not negotiated at the kerb at 3 a.m.
A note on summer arrivals
The distance from an air-conditioned terminal to an air-conditioned car is short, and it should stay short. Ask your chauffeur to have the cabin cooled before you reach the vehicle — it is the single detail guests mention most often in July and August.
